Dr. Suzanne Rivera, Vice President for Research and Technology Management at Case Western Reserve University, recently published an article in Education Technology Insights.

Dr. Rivera discussed the impact that digital innovation, including artificial intelligence (AI) has on university research settings.  “Digital technologies should not replace humans but should expand human capability and potential,” Rivera explains.  The intentional creation of transdisciplinary teams in research can help to not only develop new technology, but also explore ethical, legal, and social aspects of digital innovation.

Examples of this include IOTC’s Dr. Ken Loparo and his work with manufacturing companies.  He helps them improve operations and maintenance.  AI and machines improve safety and increase productivity, not to replace workers.
