CWRU/CSU Partnership
Mid-sized cities that have re-invented themselves as knowledge economies have harnessed the power of their universities’ research and talent development. In establishing the IoT Collaborative (IOTC), Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) and Cleveland State University (CSU) have created a deep and robust educational and research partnership – building collaborations internally between schools and disciplines, and externally with industry and the public sector – all towards growing an inclusive innovation economy in Cleveland.
“The underlying driver of knowledge based creative economies is clustering or agglomeration advantages. Agglomeration economies are geographic concentrations of interconnected businesses, suppliers, and associated academic institutions.”
~ Robert Lucas, Nobel Prize Winner
The IOTC is building connected networks that support the region’ s emerging digital innovation strategy. The Collaborative’ s work aligns with many of the big opportunities being considered in the Cleveland Innovation Project. The IOTC’ s 2027 vision is that Cleveland is a world leader in driving digital innovation to transform society. To achieve that vision, the region needs concerted efforts in the public sector as well as in industry. The IOTC has built engaged networks in both sectors to launch strategic initiatives and connect research and education on both campuses; the IOTC brings the public sector, industry, and universities together in new and exciting ways, such as: Engaging in community-based technology innovation; raising community awareness of critical data privacy and cybersecurity issues and their impact on residents; and university-industry partnerships.
