Project Description

Opioid Epidemic on EMR Record
Opioid Crisis Data Sharing
IoT Collaborative
Smart City Project Overview

Organization logo

In this project, we began by focusing on the problem of opioid abuse within our community. Faculty are studying technical and administrative barriers to data sharing that could significantly improve the abilities of law enforcement agencies and health providers to address the opioid crisis. Specifically, even though different law enforcement agencies and health providers collect data about people who are impacted, there are no clean ways of sharing such data without compromising the privacy of these individuals. Our pilot study will tell the stories of survivors and families from opioid overdoses to uncover data gaps, patterns of behavior, and how they interacted with the criminal justice system, health systems, and services that target people suffering from addiction. By understanding how those systems succeed or fail to work together, we can address how connected technologies and data can be used to develop more effective, human-centered policies and programs to reduce addiction.
