Smart City Project overview

The Smart Lake Erie Initiative is a regional movement to create a new breed of Smart & Connected Infrastructure. This "Smart Lake" system will leverage advanced sensing and analytics technologies to enable intelligent regional water management by a cross-sector collaborative of institutions and communities.
Efforts have been advanced through a series of projects, competitions, and work sessions beginning in 2017.

Organization's mission and/or purpose

Build upon the Lake Erie region's assets and resources to create a clean water innovation ecosystem that harnesses technology, spurs the economy, enhances education and drives research.

Collaborating organizations involved

The initiative is supported by the work of a broad range of collaborators but a few lead partners include Cleveland Water Alliance, Great Lakes Observing System, LimnoTech, NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory, NASA Glenn Research Center, Bowling Green State University, Ohio State University, Heidelberg University, Case Western Reserve University, Kent State University among others.

IMPACT STATEMENT

Working to drive the next generation of smart and connected infrastructure for water management. The Smart Lake Erie Initiative works to connect decision makers and communities with actionable intelligence that enables responsible water resource management. The program encompases a number of projects ranging from data infrastructure for citizen science and harmful algal bloom warning systems to real-time watershed monitoring and the internet of things.
